Illinois Aggregation in ComEd Area Says Lowest Bid Was 8.5¢, Drops Customers to Utility

July 25,2014

The Daily Herald reports that Hanover Park, Illinois is dropping its municipal electric aggregation customers to Commonwealth Edison because the village could not secure a superior rate from a competitive supplier.

"After ComEd, the cheapest rate was about 8.5 cents per kilowatt hour, put forward by Homefield Energy and Constellation Energy," the Daily Herald reports.

That rate of 8.5¢ is significantly higher than alternatives available to non-aggregation shoppers, and the Daily Herald did not indicate the bid was for green power.

Notably, several suppliers with unblemished records are offering 12-month fixed rates in the 7.3¢/kWh range on Plug-In Illinois, which is about on par with ComEd (depending on the PEA for the month).

See the Daily Herald for more, including a discussion of how many aggregations that were part of the Northern Illinois Municipal Electric Collaborative have returned to ComEd, and why some aggregations have received superior pricing
