Chicago Municipalization Of ComEd Would Cost Nearly $9 Billion, Study Says

September 01,2020

A study prepared for the city of Chicago says that the municipalization of the Commonwealth Edison system within the city would cost nearly $9 billion (see study here)

"Though the City of Chicago municipalizing the electric utility does not appear to be financially feasible, we will continue negotiating a Franchise Agreement with a laser-like focus on Mayor Lightfoot’s policy objectives of utility affordability, energy and sustainability, equitable economic development, and transparency," said Chicago Department of Assets, Information and Services Commissioner David Reynolds.
