Illinois PIRG Recommends Forcing Exelon To Divest From ComEd, Requiring ComEd TOU Supply Rates

December 01,2020

Illinois PIRG issued a report on the 2011 Energy Infrastructure Modernization Act (EIMA) (Illinois formula rate law) in which Illinois PIRG recommends that, "Exelon should be forced to divest from ComEd or, alternatively from Exelon Generation."

"Short of divestment, policymakers should take action to investigate and actively mitigate the inherent conflict between Exelon’s business interests and ComEd’s service obligations to Illinois," the report says

Illinois PIRG also recommends that, "ComEd should be forced to immediately offer key smart grid benefits such as 'time-of-use' rates, which allow customers to save money by shifting when they use electricity," including TOU generation supply rates
