In a story noting the lean savings (if any) municipal aggregations are now receiving, the Rockford Register Star quotes Freeport Mayor Jim Gitz as saying, "It is, sort of, a gamble, but historically the aggregation rate has been lower than ComEd ... The assumption in the industry is that electrical supply charges will continue to go up ... we chose the package we felt had the best chance to moderate the increase in cost."
The Rockford Register Star reports that Freeport recently signed a 36-month aggregation contract, with an initial rate of 7.68ยข/kWh for the first two years.
