April 27,2017

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that the Governor’s Committee on Energy Choice held its initial meeting, during which it heard about how the market operates and the role of FERC

According to The Nevada Independent, Lt. Gov. Mark Hutchison, Chair of the Committee, expressed concern about ceding control to FERC as a result of energy choice. The Nevada Independent quotes Hutchison as stating, regarding FERC, "It just presents another unknown to us where we can’t control our own destiny in the state of Nevada. I’m concerned about that."

Hutchison also stressed the need for reliability and stable rates, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

The Nevada Independent also reports that NV Energy has stated that it is not interested in serving as the default supplier.

According to the Review-Journal, a subsequent meeting will examine the status of other states with retail choice, though the Independent reported it's unclear when the full committee will meet again
