Report: Lubbock, Texas Poised To OK Buyout Of LP&L's Power Supply Contract

May 27,2021

KCBD reports that, in a meeting today, the Lubbock City Council is scheduled to consider terminating a 25-year partial requirements contract between Lubbock Power & Light and Southwestern Public Service via a $77.5 million buyout

While an initial transition of most of LP&L's customers to the ERCOT grid is set to occur this weekend, as previously reported, LP&L will still have a portion of customers remain in SPP, due to the legacy contract with SPS

The buyout and termination of the agreement of SPS would allow the remaining LP&L customers, which are about 30% of its customer base, to move to ERCOT, perhaps as soon as 2023
