NYT Examines Tension Between Hotels, Booking Brokers -- Sound Familiar?

September 07,2016

The New York Times has published a good read concerning the tensions between hotel owners and various online booking brokers and sales channels, such as hotels.com, expedia, etc.

The NYT piece, in particular, notes that hotel owners are trying to pry customers away from brokers, to avoid commissions, by prodding them to book direct with strategies such as offering loyal/repeat customers (those part of loyalty and rewards programs) better pricing than available through brokers ("members only" rates), and other perks not available outside of direct booking

The NYT reports that hotel owners are increasingly able to succeed with this strategy due to higher occupancy rates
