August 27,2019
A poll of Florida voters found that about 40% support the proposed electric choice ballot initiative, Florida Politics reports.
Per a poll by AmericanPublic.us, about 40% of voters are unsure, while 22% are opposed.
However, Florida Politics reports that when voters were polled with the specific language that, "according to the independent Federal Energy Information Administration, in other states that passed laws similar to this proposed amendment, the average residential electric rate is 37% higher than Florida’s," support for the electric choice ballot initiative, support fell to 21%.
Elsewhere, The Floridian Press published a story headlined, "Energy Choice Amendment looks like a bad choice for Floridians," in which, among other things, the publication cites opposition from the Florida League of Cities to the proposal
Also, former State Rep. Joseph Gibbons, among the leaders of a group opposing electric choice, had an op-ed published in Miami Community Newspapers concerning the recent price spike in ERCOT (see the op-ed here)
