REC Broker Warns MA Customers About Telephone Energy "Scam" Using Name "MA Energy"

November 24,2014

The Mass Energy Consumers Alliance, which offers RECs under the utilities' REC-add programs for basic service customers, has warned customers to "watch out for telemarketing scam artists" claiming to offer a lower price for electricity, according to WWLP-Springfield.

Mass Energy said that the solicitors claim to be "working" with National Grid, and that the caller ID appears as "MA Energy," but Mass Energy said that calls are not associated with its program.

"[T]here are fly by night companies wanting to take your money. Be careful," Mass Energy warned.
