NY Post: Bills Spike For Residents Who Sign Up For "Low-Cost" ESCO Electric Plans

December 09,2015

The New York Post recently published a story claiming, citing aggregate US Energy Information Administration data, that New York customers choosing an electricity ESCO paid an average of 15% more than the Consolidated Edison default service rate

Calling ESCO service a "rip-off," the Post notes that ESCO service is often sold, "door-to-door, over the phone or by sidewalk hustlers"

The Post quotes Craig Goodman, President of the National Energy Marketers Association, as noting that aggregate cost data as reported by the EIA is of little value when customers make individual shopping decisions, as it does not reflect the savings offered by low-cost ESCO providers in the market, or value-added services included
