Report: Police Say "Suspicious" Delmarva Power "Impersonators" Were Legitimate Employees

December 01,2015

An individual originally called suspicious and a Delmarva Power imposter by Newark, DE police was actually an employee, police have now confirmed, WDEL reports

Newark police originally issued a warning about the supposed impostor after Delmarva informed police that it had no record of any of its workers being at the address in question. However, Delmarva later determined that the individual was one of its employees, who had needed to make contact with the resident to manually read a meter.

The incident is notable because shortly before the police's warning, Delmarva had, during the retail market improvement workshops, said that utility impostors were a frequent occurrence, which necessitated careful consideration of retail market issues. The police warning of another imposter (since proven to be erroneous) only fed such a narrative.
