Court Grants Temporary Order Blocking Requirement For Ohio Petition Gatherers To Reveal Identity

October 14,2019

A federal court has temporarily blocked an Ohio law that requires petition gatherers to reveal their identities, Cleveland.com reports (see story here)

The relief had been sought by Ohioans Against Corporate Bailouts, which is seeking to overturn via a referendum the nuclear subsidy law, HB 6

Ohioans Against Corporate Bailouts had argued that the disclosure allowed HB 6 supporters to locate petition circulations and offer compensation to cease their petition efforts. Petitioners have been offered $2,500 to cease gathering for Ohioans Against Corporate Bailouts, the Columbus Dispatch reports (see story here)

Ohioans Against Corporate Bailouts has also reported harassment of its circulators
