IL Committee Recommends Passage Of Bill To Prohibit ARES Service To Assistance Program Customers

March 29,2019

The Public Utilities Committee of The Illinois house has recommended passage of the amended version of HB 2861 which, among other things, provides that retail suppliers are prohibited from enrolling customers who have, in the past 12 months, received financial assistance from either the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program or the Percentage of Income Payment Plan, unless the enrollment is for a guaranteed savings product approved by the Illinois Commerce Commission, or under a government aggregation.

As more fully reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com, the bill also includes new marketing, disclosure, and bonding requirements for retail electric and gas suppliers
