Claim: End of FirstEnergy Utility Efficiency Programs in Ohio Aimed at Boosting Prices for FES

September 25,2014

John Funk, in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, takes a look at the FirstEnergy Ohio utilities' petitions to dramatically scale back ratepayer-funded energy efficiency programs, given changes to the enabling legislation.

Funk's piece includes a claim from Robert Kelter, an attorney with the Environmental Law and Policy Center, who is quoted as alleging that, "It's clear from this filing that they [FirstEnergy EDCs] want their unregulated affiliate (FirstEnergy Solutions) to be able to sell more higher-priced electricity and are throwing their customers under the bus."
