Texas City Selects Retail Provider For Opt-In Aggregation

May 15,2017

The City of Fate, Texas has selected Discount Power (of Texas) to supply an opt-in municipal aggregation program

According to a website for the aggregation, pricing will be as follows:

• Energy Charge: 3.595¢ per kWh.

• Oncor TDU Charges : $5.25 per month and 3.29¢ per kWh

The aggregation website says that the winning bid included a "reduced" termination fee.

A pricing page for the aggregation states that the energy charges of the winning rate are 37 percent cheaper, "than the average of those in today's market for a similar rate plan."

"On average, people in the group will save $336 per year on their electricity bills," the website states

However, on the city's main landing page for the aggregation, www.cityoffate.com/fatepowerswitch, the only cost disclosure is, "We have secured a great auction-winning rate: households can save $336 on average." On this city landing page, there is no information regarding over what time the average $336 in savings would be realized, or to what the aggregation rate is being compared. We wonder how such a disclosure would fly if marketed by a retail supplier

As previously reported, the aggregation is run by iChoosr, which has run aggregations in Europe, and whose Texas entry was first reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com in April 2016

The Rockwall Herald-Banner reports that over 350 Fate households have signed up for the program, or 1 in 10 households
