DMN Watchdog: Did a Lover’s Quarrel Lead To An Anti-Slamming Electricity Bill in Austin?

April 14,2017

Providing an update on a proposed Texas bill, whose filing was first reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com, which would make the unauthorized initiation of service with a different retail electric provider a criminal offense, Dave Lieber, Watchdog for The Dallas Morning News, says that the bill may have been engendered by what Lieber terms a, "lover's spat," in which a party switched without authorization their ex-partner's REP out of spite.

This constituent brought the issue to the attention of Rep. Yvonne Davis, D-Dallas, who introduced the bill to address slamming on a global scale, Lieber reports

Lieber notes that the bill has received rounds of proposed changes from stakeholders and reports that Davis is re-writing it. The bill remains in committee
