Retail Choice Not In Spotlight In This Year’s Pedernales Electric Co-op Election

Unlike last year, retail choice has not taken a spotlight role in elections for directors at Pedernales Electric Cooperative, though the issue has still been addressed by some candidates.
Currently, PEC does not permit retail choice
The Austin American-Statesman notes that the two candidates vying for a District 5 seat have both said that they are against retail competition. Despite such opposition, one of these candidates has been endorsed by Texans for Affordable Electric Rates, which according to the American-Statesman, has previously endorsed candidates who backed retail choice
An unopposed candidate for the co-op's other open seat has said he would consider the issue of choice, and has also been endorsed by Texans for Affordable Electric Rates
The endorsements by Texans for Affordable Electric Rates has led to speculation on pectruthwatch.com, in a guest post attributed to William Boggs, former PEC Director, about such endorsed candidates' true position on the issue
Meanwhile, Tom "Smitty" Smith, director of Texas Public Citizen, says that choice at PEC would increase costs, in an op-ed in the Statesman
