Rick Perry: Hunt Acquisition of Oncor Threatens Texas’ Power Grid

January 11,2016

An op-ed penned by former Texas governor Rick Perry appearing in The Dallas Morning News argues that allowing the acquisition of Oncor by various Hunt Consolidated companies, "could compromise reliability and potentially increase costs and risk for Oncor’s more than 3 million North Texas customers."

While Perry writes that, "The Hunts’ name is a good name, and not just in Dallas but throughout Texas," Perry states that, "it is worth noting that the vast majority of the investment capital for the purchase of Oncor comes not from the Hunts but from hedge funds and other financial firms, some of which were involved in the failed buyout of TXU."

See The Dallas Morning News for the full op-ed

The Dallas Morning News also published an open letter to Texans from Hunter L. Hunt regarding the Oncor acquisition (see the letter here)
