Wishful Thinking? P-G Says FirstEnergy Rate Increases Expected To Push More Customers To Shop

July 07,2015

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette published a story speculating the recent default service rate increases at the FirstEnergy PA utilities may increase customer shopping.

Though the first month of bills with the higher rates are just arriving, consumer alerts and proactive marketing by suppliers ahead of the rate hikes have not stemmed any tide at the FirstEnergy PA utilities as all four continued to see declining residential shopping during June, as reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com. In fact, other than a net gain of a few hundred residential customers at Met-Ed alone during May (which was reversed in June), the FirstEnergy PA utility have not seen a net monthly increase in residential shopping since November 2014.
