Pennsylvania Loses 25,000 Residential Electric Shoppers Since April
August 02,2019
On a statewide basis, Pennsylvania saw the number of residential electric customers on competitive supply decrease by nearly 25,000 accounts from late April to late July (reporting date various slightly by utility).
The PUC did not post on PA Power Switch monthly stats for the months of May and June. While it's unclear how many residential customers (net) left choice each month during the three-month period, if the net loss of 24,488 customers were simply averaged over three months, the net monthly loss of about 8,200 customers would be in line with the monthly declines seen earlier in the year.
From late April to late July, the large EDCs saw the number of residential customers decline as follows:
Duquesne Light (2,765)
Met-Ed (3,060)
PECO (5,341)
Penelec (2,323)
Penn Power (179)
PPL (7,985)
West Penn Power (2,803)
As a percent of customers, statewide residential electric shopping is now 29.8% (at 1,528,757 customers), versus 30.2% as of late April 2019
