Group Says Texas Needs To Support "Self-Generation", Removal Of "Barriers" To DERs

April 10,2019

Suzanne Bertin, managing director of the Texas Advanced Energy Business Alliance, authored an op-ed published in the Houston Chronicle stating that: "Texas should implement policies that support customers’ rights to invest in self-generation, storage and other DERs that offer savings and reliability. Customers should have opportunities to participate in markets, if they so choose, and provide energy and reliability services to the grid. And policymakers should take care not to erect new market barriers to advanced energy resources that are already thriving in the competitive market that SB 7 helped charge."

Though Bertin generally referenced several bills before lawmakers during the current session, Bertin did not delineate any specific recommended policies (such as mandated net metering or REP purchasing of excess DG)
