Direct Energy Celebrates First Distributed Solar Customer

March 24,2014

Direct Energy recently celebrated the installation of distributed solar at a BJ'S Wholesale Club in North Brunswick, New Jersey, in what was the first customer under Direct Energy Business' partnership with SolarCity

The companies are providing the BJ's club with solar electricity through a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA), which is part of the dedicated investment fund capable of financing up to $124 million in solar projects created by Direct Energy and SolarCity last fall (click for details)

Based on the current design and the historical energy usage at the North Brunswick BJ's site, SolarCity expects BJ's to pay more than 10 percent below current utility rates for solar electricity

On-site, solar will cover 18 percent of the facility's annual energy use. Direct Energy Business will supply the remaining 82 percent through its PowerPortfolio product.
