Update: Former TXU CEO Teams With Activist Investor To Take Nearly 10% Stake in NRG

January 18,2017

Reuters has more on Elliott Management, and Bluescape Energy Partners, a private equity company founded by former TXU Corp. CEO John Wilder, teaming to take a nearly 10% interest in NRG Energy, with the groups stating that, "there exist numerous opportunities to significantly increase shareholder value, including operational and financial improvements as well as strategic initiatives."

Reuters cited a research note which muses that the moves are premised on Wilder's turnaround acumen, who improved TXU Corp.'s performance which made the company an attractive target for a leverage buyout

NRG said in a statement that, "NRG Energy appreciates the Group’s interest in the Company. NRG Energy is committed to creating shareholder value and welcomes input from all shareholders. NRG looks forward to an open dialogue with Elliott and Bluescape."
