Pols Say PJM Capacity Performance Change Harming Demand Response, Increasing Costs

October 20,2016

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan and U.S. Senator Christopher Coons (Delaware) have written separately to the PJM Board expressing concern that the introduction of capacity performance in the PJM capacity market is decreasing the opportunity for demand response, and therefore raising capacity prices.

Coons says that virtually all residential and much commercial DR will be excluded from the upcoming capacity auction

Hogan says that left unchecked, the current rules will have a "chilling" effect on future demand response investment

Remember these concerns the next time Texas capacity market advocates spin that a capacity market would unlock Texas's demand response "potential"
