Municipal Aggregation Now "Dominant" Power Supplier
June 05,2015
With a recent expansion, California community choice aggregator Sonoma Clean Power is set to become Sonoma County's "dominant" electricity supplier, The Press Democrat reports.
Including accounts from three newly added cities, the aggregation serves as the supplier for about 90% of the county's 226,000 residential and commercial customers, The Press Democrat reports.
"Less then 10 percent of accounts have opted out and chosen to remain with PG&E, The Press Democrat reports.
One local official, however, disagrees that customers have actually made a "choice" with the aggregation opt-out design.
Rohnert Park Councilwoman Pam Stafford, told The Press Democrat, “And I really don’t agree that it’s a choice. A choice is giving people an option, and so many are just being enrolled without knowing that they have to call to opt out. Then a few months later, I get questions from people saying 'Wait, what?'”
