Report: Ambit Providing Rebates After PSC Investigation
April 22,2015
The Troy, NY Record has reported that, "[a]s a result of a PSC investigation, Ambit [Energy] has agreed to provide rebates to customers who were charged higher-than-expected rates," that resulted when customers, formerly on guaranteed savings plan, were placed on standard variable rate plans at the end of the term of their guaranteed savings plan due to the customer's inaction in affirmatively responding to various renewal options.
The Record further reported that, "Ambit has agreed to recalculate bills for customers that contacted the PSC during 2014 and 2015 and to give rebates, based on what they should have been charged, to customers that filed a complaint saying they did not receive a renewal letter."
An Ambit Energy representative provided the following statement to RetailEnergyX.com:
"Ambit Energy is committed to offering competitive plans in each of the markets we serve, and we are proud of the annual savings made possible by our Guaranteed Savings Plan (GSP). We have not been informed of any formal investigation by the NY PSC. Ambit Energy’s GSP variable plan in New York includes an annual savings guarantee. To be eligible to continue the savings guarantee, the customer must renew the GSP once a year. Customers receive advance notice of the deadline to take action to renew the GSP. Customers who fail to renew may contact our Customer Care Team to re-enroll online at any time. Ambit is proud of being recognized by J.D. Power for its high level of customer satisfaction and looks forward to continuing our award-winning track record as a leading national retail energy provider in the United States."
Asked specially to comment on the accuracy of the Record's description that, "Ambit has agreed to recalculate bills for customers that contacted the PSC during 2014 and 2015 and to give rebates, based on what they should have been charged, to customers that filed a complaint saying they did not receive a renewal letter," an Ambit Energy representative provided the following statement to RetailEnergyX.com:
"The statement is incorrect. Ambit frequently communicates with the New York State Public Service Commission on ways to reduce Customer complaints. Serving Customers is our top priority, and we are committed to best serving them in New York, as well as the other 13 states where we provide service."
Ambit declined to provide specifics regarding any rebates being issued, such as the number of customers impacted and total amount being rebated.
