City Of Albany, NY Authorized Opt-out Municipal Aggregation, Will Issue RFP

The Common Council of the City of Albany, NY has authorized creation of an opt-out municipal aggregation for electricity, the Albany Times Union reports
A newly created Board will issue an RFP for supply
Councilmember Alfredo Balarin expressed concern with giving the newly create Board authority over the supply contract, rather than the Common Council
The Municipal Electric and Gas Alliance (MEGA) serves as the city's aggregation consultant
The city's website says concerning opt-out aggregation that, "As a participant in MEGA’s CCA you may have", among other things, "better rates on your electric bill" and "price stability and budget certainty (avoid spikes in electricity prices)[.]"
The city also notes that the aggregation, "combat[s] predatory practices of energy telemarketers and door-to-door sales[.]"
