RI Lt. Gov Looks To Increase Electric Rate Competition (POR Pitched As Solution)
February 06,2015
Rhode Island Lt. Gov. Daniel McKee continues to advocate that more competition is needed in the state's electric market, after significant National Grid rate hikes, which were partially mitigated by the PSC, the Warwick Beacon reports.
"We need to roll the competition in the mix," the Beacon quotes McKee as stating at a recent forum.
As previously reported, McKee has suggested creating a state-administered price comparison website. However, McKee has also made general comments about giving National Grid and/or the PUC more flexibility in procurement to avoid volatility, potentially making the process less market-reflective.
The Beacon reported that McKee repeated calls for greater PUC flexibility, as McKee stated that the legislature "needs to untie the hands of the PUC."
The Beacon also reports that Ross Weaver of Quest Energy Solution presented the idea of Purchase of Receivables to the lieutenant governor during the forum
