The Financial Times reported that PPL Corporation and Avangrid Inc are in merger discussions

The FT's reporting said that it was not clear if any transaction would involve an investment from Iberdrola, which owns about 80% of Avangrid.

In the U.S., PPL operates PPL Electric Utilities which has an electric choice programs, which notably has no affiliates which own generation or which offer competitive retail supplier

Avangrid's utilities include NYSEG, Rochester Gas and Electric, United Illuminating, Central Maine Power, and various natural gas LDCs.

Avangrid also owns Avangrid Renewables, which operates as a retail electric supplier in addition to offering wholesale supply and developing and owning projects.

Retail supplier Iberdrola Solutions LLC also recently received a Texas REP certificate
