Groups Protest Dominion Virginia's Overearnings, Seeks Energy Regulation Reforms

September 09,2019

Several groups protesting Dominion Virginia Power's rates, including clean energy groups, held a protest today seeking refunds of amounts the State Corporation Commission recently concluded Dominion earned above its established rate of return

As previously reported (story here), the Virginia SCC released a report stating that, in 2018, Dominion Virginia's Generation segment earned $376.3 million above the base Return on Equity of 9.2% that was most recently approved by the Commission for Dominion's RACs (rate adjustment clauses)

"Dominion Energy has effectively built a conveyor belt to transfer Virginians’ hard-earned money to the corporation’s executives and shareholders. The electric monopoly has deprived Virginians of $1.3 billion in potential refunds while holding back the transition to a?21st-century energy economy. It’s time for legislators, customers, and regulators to join together to reform our dysfunctional utility system so that it works for everyone, not just one powerful monopoly," said Brennan Gilmore, Clean Virginia Executive Director.
