Mass. DPU Sets Late August Hearing Date For Boston Municipal Aggregation Plan

July 25,2019

The Massachusetts DPU has set for August 20, 2019 a hearing on an opt-out electricity municipal aggregation plan filed by the City of Boston

The hearing date is notable because the City had asked, in its application filed in late June, that its plan be approved by August 31, 2019 to allow for the City to reduce uncertainty (and to reduce uncertainty in upcoming basic service procurements) and to solicit the necessary power in October 2019 for a January 2020 program launch

As has been more fully detailed by EnergyChoiceMatters.com (story here), while the approval timeline for municipal aggregations vary with the unique plans filed by each locality (and whether revisions or supplements are necessary), the sought approval by August 31, 2019 -- less than three months after the plan's filing with the DPU -- is rather short compared to the typical timeline for DPU approval.
