CenterPoint Energy Reports Results From Retail Marketing Business

CenterPoint Energy, Inc. said in reporting earnings today that its Energy Services segment reported an operating loss of $9 million for the third quarter of 2018, which included a mark-to-market gain of $1 million, compared with operating income of $7 million for the third quarter of 2017, which included a mark-to-market gain of $2 million.
The Energy Services segment includes CenterPoint Energy's retail natural gas marketing business
Excluding mark-to-market adjustments, the Energy Services segment operating loss was $10 million for the third quarter of 2018 compared with operating income of $5 million for the third quarter of 2017.
Operating income decreased due to lower margin, resulting from reduced opportunities to optimize natural gas supply costs and timing impacts related to natural gas storage activity, and higher operation and maintenance expense.
The Energy Services segment remains on track to achieve the core operating income target of $70 - $80 million for 2018, the company said
The Energy Services segment had 30,000 customers as of September 30, 2018, versus 31,000 a year ago
The Energy Services segment had volumes of 307 bcf for the third quarter of 2018, versus 272 bcf a year ago
