Report Says Retail Supplier Stalked By Controversy Over Sales, Accounting
November 10,2014
Canadian news magazine program 16x9 has done a piece on Just Energy, raising questions on its sales practices as well as repeating previous concerns raised regarding its accounting.
Just Energy called the 16x9 report "unbalanced and incomplete," and provided the following statement to RetailEnergyX.com:
"We are very disappointed with the unbalanced and incomplete November 8, Global news story regarding Just Energy and our industry. The story failed to discuss our numerous consumer protections including having every customer acknowledge the features and benefits of our offering before enrolling, and then having each customer speak to an independent third party to ensure the customer is fully aware of Just Energy and the details of the program the customer has enrolled in.
"After investigating, both of the residential customers interviewed clearly acknowledged within taped affirmation calls that they agreed with the terms of the offer, and they acknowledged that their salesperson did not represent the local utility in any way.
"We take pride in our robust standards, consumer protection measures and compliance codes, all of which are designed to ensure every customer experience is a positive one.
"With respect to our accounting practices, any allegation that JE does not properly follow standard accounting practices is completely false. We follow all IFRS (international financial reporting standards) rules and have Ernst & Young audit all of our statements before they are publicly filed.
"We are dedicated to ensuring that every customer who enrols with Just Energy fully understands the features and benefits of our products and service, and that only those who want to be with JE, are with JE. Our priority is making sure we demonstrate value in every customer relationship we have."
