Impression Made: NRG Energy TV Ad Cited As Analogy By Local Press
November 05,2014
NRG Energy's new television spot which began running at the start of NFL season has begun to osmotically percolate into broader popular culture, and has now been cited in an analogy by a local Pennsylvania high school sports website.
As previously reported by RetailEnergyX.com, NRG Energy's ad, tagged The Power to Be Free, "juxtapose an old-timey football team – complete with dusty canvas pants and leather helmets – as they enter a modern, crowd-filled stadium powered by NRG solar panels," to show that the "old game" can't compete, especially when it comes to energy (highlighting NRG's innovative solar and other solutions).
Now that juxtaposition depicted in the ad is being used generally to describe an overmatched opponent.
To wit, GameTimePa.com, in its lede concerning a high school volleyball tournament, reports as follows: "In many ways, Parkland's 3-0 victory over Garnet Valley Tuesday night in the first round of the PIAA Class AAA girls volleyball tournament was like that NRG Energy commercial, where the circa 1930s football team comes running out of the locker room only to see just how big and opposing its opponent is."
