While competitive retail rates attract most of the negative attention, WKTV-Utica reports that many customers are being "blindsided" by sharp increases in the default supply rates of National Grid.
"Officials with National Grid said that supply costs have increased substantially because of sustained, colder than normal weather and therefore, higher demand for heat," WKTV reports.
