WSJ Reports on NRG Energy/UD Vehicle-to-Grid Pilot

September 29,2014

The Wall Street Journal has published an update on the previously announced plot between NRG Energy and the University of Delaware studying the use of electric vehicles to send power back to the grid.

Notable is that WSJ reports that, "NRG says it now plans to test whether electric vehicles could power a building and will apply for funds from a $6 million pool of EV-to-grid research money available from California's Energy Commission."

Also notable as policymakers contemplate resource adequacy and mandatory capacity markets in a distributed energy world is the story's reporting that, "Delaware project requires that a certain number of vehicles be strung together because PJM's system won't recognize a 'power plant' with less than 100 kilowatts of capacity, which is about what nine vehicles can provide"
