Texas PUC Chair Replies To State. Rep. On Sought Extension Of Hurricane REP Consumer Protections
October 30,2017
Texas PUC Chairman DeAnn Walker has written a reply to Texas State Rep. Jessica Farrar, who had earlier filed a letter urging the PUC to adopt a petition from consumer advocates who had sought the adoption and extension of various retail electricity consumer protections for Hurricane Harvey victims for a period of 12 months
In such reply, Walker stated, "In compliance with 16 Texas Administrative Code ยง22.281, which I have attached for your reference, the Commission established the deadline for the public to file comments as November 10, 2017. Once the time period for comments has expired, the Commission Staff will summarize any filed comments and make a recommendation for further action to the Commission. As you are aware, the Commission can only consider the petition in an open meeting; therefore, it is my anticipation that once the Commission Staff has completed their work, the issue will be scheduled for consideration at the next open meeting."
Walker's reply also recited various measures the PUC took to extend consumer protections to Hurricane victims in the aftermath of the storm, including various requirements imposed on REPs and a DNP suspension
