New Jersey Issues "Discussion Document" on New Retail Supplier Marketing, Disclosure Rules

August 25,2014

The New Jersey BPU has issued a discussion document in advance of a September 4 stakeholder meeting concerning revisions to the retail supplier customer protection rules, as well as implementation of changes to the state's retail supplier telemarketing laws.

Among issues raised by the discussion document are:

• New contract summary template

• Should retail suppliers be required to post prices publicly online?

• Definition of product types, fixed/variable

• Definition of "guaranteed savings"

• Notice provisions for fixed product termination, including timeline and disclosures

• Should small commercial customers receive the same protections as residential customers?

• Off-cycle switches/faster switching

See the BPU discussion document for specific questions and issues
