N.Y. Survey: ESCO Customers Less Satisfied Than Utility Customers

"Respondents who use a non-utility supplier are less satisfied than those who use a utility," concludes a survey by Abt SRBI filed with the New York PSC.

Per the survey, 70% of respondents are satisfied with their electric utility, including 31% who are very satisfied.

Additionally, 63% of respondents who use a non-utility provider are satisfied with the service they receive.

71% of respondents are aware that they have an option to purchase electricity from a non-utility provider and 15% of all respondents actually do so. 21% of those who are aware of their option to purchase electricity from a non-utility provider currently do so.

When asked about their interest in a variety of electricity-related products and services, respondents’ being “very interested” ranges from 19% for the ability to pre-purchase electricity to 35% for receiving credits for usage reduction at key times.
