Claim: FirstEnergy Solutions "Ruined" Retail Market; "Everybody is Dancing on FES’s Grave"

August 18,2014

The Cleveland Plain Dealer published an interesting story by John Funk concerning reaction from certain competitors and brokers to the news that FirstEnergy Solutions was exiting certain retail markets completely (mass, mid-merit), while drastically reducing sales in other markets

Funk quotes, J.D. Burrows, vice president of marketing at GDF Suez Energy Resources NA, as saying that FES's "irresponsible" pricing strategy (which included customer-angering pass-through clauses on ostensibly fixed contracts), "ruined the market"

RetailEnergyX.com first reported that Burrows had called FES's exit a "win for customers"

Funk also quotes a broker as stating that, "Everybody is dancing on FirstEnergy Solutions' grave."
