Muni Aggregation’s Selection of Monthly Variable Rates Burns Customers

July 10,2014

Crain's Chicago Business reports on the situation facing participants of the Village of Dolton's municipal electric aggregation, who are, "paying by far the highest electricity rates of any municipality in northern Illinois," after the village elected to take monthly variable pricing at the end of its aggregation contract at the end of January 2014.

"Residents paid a reasonable price, 5.92 cents per kilowatt-hour, through the winter months. But now that July is here and air conditioners are humming, Integrys' energy charge has shot up to 9.6 cents per kilowatt-hour, 35 percent above ComEd's 7.1-cent charge for power this month," Crain's reports
