PSNH Chief: "Market Not Working"

July 10,2014

"When you're running jet fuel to keep the lights on," as Public Service Company of New Hampshire did this winter with its utility-owned generation when merchant generation was offline, "the market is not working," William Quinlan, President of PSNH, said in recent remarks to the Portsmouth Herald editorial board

Quinlan's remarks struck a similar vein as other recent comments, where Quinlan has noted infrastructure and attendant market and pricing challenges facing the ISO-NE wholesale market.

Also notable is that, as reported by the Herald, Quinlan said that PSNH is exploring a PPA with Hydro-Quebec, but said it was "premature" to discuss the matter in more detail now. Such a PPA would obviously implicate default service supply and pricing.
