Miramar, FL – June 30, 2014 – Recent news on the Supreme Court EPA ruling to limit carbon emissions on coal-fired power plants, could drive up electricity prices, a Florida-based marketer reports.

The court held that the Environmental Protection Agency may regulate the greenhouse gas emissions of any suppliers that are already required to receive a permit under the Clean Air Act.

Although a huge win for the EPA, this may not be good news for retail energy customers. These new rules could result in a backdoor energy tax that would drive up energy bills for American households and businesses. As coal-fired generation is reduced, there will be higher demand for natural gas which will increase prices for home heating, as well as electricity. With growing demands on natural gas and Shale gas production, additional resources are being strained to keep up with rising energy costs.
