NYT Repots on Customer Uptake of Solar Gardens (Ownership of Resource Not Sited At Customer Premise)

June 20,2014

The New York Times today published an overview of the growth of solar gardens, or customer purchases of entitlements in remotely-sited solar generation, due to the unsuitability of customer-sited solar

Although not citing any retail supplier examples, the Times does note that the solar gardens offer an alternative to other forms of buying green energy, such as through an ESCO.

We have seen variations on the idea from retail suppliers -- Green Mountain Energy's SolarSPARC product, for example (see background), which does not provide an actual ownership stake, but which does offer monetary payments for solar investments (ostensibly a proxy for ownership entitlements)

See the New York Times for more on solar gardens
