Village Voice: "Parasitic" Energy "Scammers" Seeking To Drag Out PSC Review, Prolong Overcharging
June 07,2017
The Village Voice published a story concerning the New York PSC's evidentiary review of the New York retail energy mass markets
In such story, noting various requests for stay filed by ESCOs, the Village Voice reported, "ESCOs have a financial incentive to drag the process out as long as possible, according to Richard Berkley, director of the Public Utility Law Project (PULP)."
"Berkley estimates those overcharges generate between $30 and $40 million — each month," the Village Voice reported.
The Village Voice also repeated various allegations made against Ambit Energy from a prior Village Voice story. An Ambit Energy spokesperson said that it would reach out to the Village Voice for a correction of various statements made by the story, including a statement that Ambit was a "recipient" of a recent subpoena from the PSC.
An Ambit Energy spokesperson provided the following statement:
"Customer satisfaction is the highest priority for Ambit Energy, and we remain committed to continuing our award-winning track record as a leading national retail energy provider in New York. We also place great importance on earning the trust of the regulatory agencies in the markets we serve and have worked closely with the New York Department of Public Service to comply with all state requirements.
"Ambit has not been issued a subpoena, and the New Jersey lawsuit referenced in the article has been dismissed with prejudice on all counts. Additionally, the Village Voice referred to ESCO complaints reported to the PSC in 2015, but the most recent reports show Ambit Energy had less than two percent of all ESCO complaints received from January to April 2017. We have reached out to the Village Voice to request a correction." – Ambit Energy spokesperson
