NRG Retail EVP: Every One Of Our Competitors Is Looking At Customer Count Declines Of Some Level
May 02,2017
Discussing the retail business in response to an analyst question on this morning's NRG Energy earnings call, Elizabeth Killinger, Executive Vice President, NRG Retail, contrasted NRG's retail growth versus competitor struggles with customer counts.
"Last year, in Texas alone, we grew by 87,000 customers; every one of our competitors is looking at declines of some level," Killinger said
Killinger noted that the customer growth partially mitigated the negative impacts on Retail's Adjusted EBITDA (see story here)
Killinger did report that NRG has seen some margin compression from its customer growth decisions, as at times it will accept lower margins as part of enrolling customers who can contribute strong EBITDA
However, Killinger said that Retail is not seeing margin compression from any change in competitive dynamic, and reported that the company is not seeing any more competition than historically seen
