ERCOT Reports On Process For Co-optimization Consideration
April 28,2017
ERCOT filed a letter with the Texas PUC outlining a schedule to consider co-optimization of energy and operating reserves in the real-time market (RTC)
ERCOT plans to submit an initial RTC progress report to the Commission on July 14, 2017 for discussion at the Commission's Open Meeting scheduled on July 28, 2017. Pursuant to instructions from the Technical Advisory Committee and the Wholesale Market Subcommittee, the Supply Adequacy Working Group will meet on Friday, April 28, 2017, to produce a document defining the scope of the renewed RTC efforts, which will build upon the incomplete RTC whitepaper that has remained dormant since early 2016.
ERCOT anticipates that its July 2017 RTC progress report will include a summary of the activities by ERCOT and stakeholders over the next three months to further define the scope of RTC, along with an outline of the expected future work plan on RTC should the Commission want additional information. In addition, ERCOT has initiated an internal effort to reassess the cost estimates and implementation timelines associated with RTC that were first provided to the Commission in September 2013. ERCOT expects to complete this effort on a schedule that will enable it to include updated cost and timeline estimates in its July 2017 RTC progress report.
