Pepco Reports Billing Error That Led To Retail Suppliers Charging Customers For Incorrect Usage

April 25,2017

Pepco reported to the District of Columbia PSC a billing error under which residential Net Energy Metering (NEM) customers with Third Party Suppliers, who generated in excess of their usage, were billed by their Third Party Suppliers for the energy they generated in excess of their usage.

"This was due to a coding issue in the Pepco billing system which reported this excess generation as a positive rather than a negative number to Third Party Suppliers," Pepco reported

The issue was discovered on April 21, 2017. Pepco discovered the error after receiving reports from customers who received incorrect bills

Approximately 163 customers were affected.
