Lawyers To Seek $35 Million In Suit Seeking Class Action Status Against Retail Supplier

March 30,2017

The Portland (ME) Press Herald provides an update on a suit, seeking class action status, filed against Electricity Maine, with the plaintiffs' lawyers stating they will be seeking at least $35 million.

The suit alleges Electricity Maine promised customers that rates would not exceed the utility standard offer rate, but alleges that Electricity Maine's rates did exceed the standard offer after an initial period

The service at issue under the suit generally occurred before Electricity Maine was purchased by Spark Energy

According to the Press Herald, "Spark Holdco has filed the motion to dismiss the case, saying the plaintiffs have failed to demonstrate that they have an actionable claim under the law."

Spark Energy said that it does not comment on pending litigation
