Maine Public Advocate Seeks NY-Style Review of Retail Market, Citing Higher Costs

In a special to the Bangor Daily News, Maine's Public Advocate Tim Schneider called for a review of the state's retail electric market.
"An important first step would be to follow New York and Connecticut’s lead and use data from utilities to find out if competitive suppliers are actually saving residential and small-business customers money or offering them meaningful choice," Schneider wrote
Schneider cited a previously reported BDN analysis that indicated, based on EIA data, that from 2012 to 2015, Maine customers buying power from retail suppliers paid $50 million more than default service rates
